Key insights into 2024: navigating growth and sustainable investing

Key insights into 2024_navigating growth and sustainable investing
| Market Forces, Through Our Lens

As we usher in 2024, we hope that you had a splendid holiday season, filled with well-deserved rest and rejuvenation. Standing at the threshold of a new year, we reflect with gratitude on our collective achievements and the contributions that have shaped the past months and look forward with anticipation to what awaits us in 2024. Our journey through 2023 has been marked by significant milestones, which were all made possible with the steadfast support from you, our valued clients.

Last year we cemented our integration with Absa Investments. This strategic partnership not only solidified our position as one of the largest black-owned asset managers in South Africa but also set the stage for the remarkable journey that lies ahead. Built upon our initial transaction with African Rainbow Capital Financial Services (ARC), the integration with Absa accelerated us into a new era, enabling us to achieve scale in our business and further enhancing our offering in both institutional and retail markets. We’re in the final stages of merging key funds, set to conclude early this year. This streamlines our capabilities, ensuring added value for you in the short-medium term.

In the coming months, our strategic focus will evolve as we recently established our Private Markets business, led by Steven Rosenberg as the Chief Executive Officer. Darryl Moodley has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Sanlam Investments Multi-Manager, contributing to the ongoing enhancement of our value proposition.

Sustainable and impact investing continues to be a strategic imperative and a guiding principle at the core of our mission. In line with this commitment, we have recently committed to an R100-million debt facility in collaboration with Mettle that highlights our dedication to fostering positive societal and economic impacts. This initiative supports micro and small fibre contractors, contributing to job creation, enhanced education and the growth of small businesses.

May the upcoming year unfold with continued prosperity, growth, and shared achievements. At Sanlam Investments, our passion for sustainable investing fuels our commitment, and we eagerly look forward to another year of collaboratively building a greener future together.

Sincerely,

Carl Roothman
