The Big Book of Sustainable Investing: second edition

The pursuit of a sustainable future is not just an idea – it is a reality that we’re collectively shaping at Sanlam Investments.

Our mission to become Africa’s premier sustainable and impact asset manager has been guided, in part, by our partnership with Robeco, a global asset manager focused on sustainable solutions since 1995. This collaboration has played a crucial role in shaping our sustainable strategies. It reflects our commitment to empowering clients with financial and sustainability objectives through effective investment returns and solutions. We are therefore pleased to introduce the second edition of The Big Book of Sustainable Investing, a collaborative effort between Robeco and Sanlam Investments.

The latest edition explores three pivotal megatrends influencing ESG investing today: climate change, biodiversity loss and human rights abuses. The report highlights the necessity for a shift from a linear to a circular model in the production of goods, and advocates for the adoption of renewable energy to realise the benefits of a carbon-neutral, nature-positive global economy.

The Big Book of Sustainable Investing serves as a reminder that without disrupting ‘business as usual,’ our planet will face an irreversible, devastating trajectory. Highlighting the pivotal role of redeploying capital towards sustainable activities, Carl Roothman, Sanlam Investment Group CEO, says, “Given the environmental crisis we face, it is important for investors to evaluate how sustainable companies are, before investing in them. The work that we do every day, and our work with Robeco is a testament to the fact that Sanlam Investments is deeply committed to people, communities, and the planet.”

This comprehensive guide is the go-to reference for navigating the complex landscape of sustainable investing, catering to individuals at every level – from seasoned investors to those starting their sustainability journey.
