Rirhandzu Marivate is a Regenerative Food Systems Coordinator for the Sustainability Institutte. She is also the project manager of the Living Soils Community Learning Farm. The project aims to establish a self-sustaining learning farm that produces food using ecologically-regenerative farming methods for the benefit and development of long-term food security, while incorporating training of young and emerging farmers. Rirhandzu has previously worked for the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research as an Environmental Practitioner. Moreover, she worked as an environmental researcher at the University of Cape Town. She holds a Bachelors of Sciences (Honours) degree in Ecology, Environment and Conservation (University of the Witwatersrand), focused on ethnoecology and community-based natural resources management; and a Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Development and Planning (Stellenbosch University). Her interests are on multi-stakeholder engagement on environmental and natural resource planning and management, and optimising livelihood building activities, while protecting the environment in order to build community resilience. She is a park runner, and enjoys the outdoors, travelling and connecting with people.
